RE: PROCLAMATION OF POISON PREVENTION WEEK IN WELD COUNTY, COLO-
RADO.
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, are vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS , many of our homes contain a vast array of poten-
tially poisonous products which, if used as intended, are de-
signed to prolong life, relieve pain, conquer disease, and im-
prove our welfare, and
WHEREAS, our children possess insatiable desires to ex-
plore the unknown and examine the untouchables, and
WHEREAS, such toxic substances as cleaners , polishes, pes-
ticides, medicines, and solvents are too often left unprotected
and unattended, and
WHEREAS, Weld County can play a major role in motivating
our neighborhood organizations , retailers , educators , homemakers ,
professional persons , civic groups , and all other citizens to
join with Americans everywhere in encouraging the safe storage,
usage, and handling of potentially poisonous household substances.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Com-
missioners of Weld County, Colorado, that they do hereby pro-
claim March 18-24, 1979 as Poison Prevention Week in Weld County
in coordination with National Poison Prevention Week and invite
the cooperation of all citizens in a coordinated campaign to
reduce the ever-present threat of accidental poisoning.

The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made
and seconded, adopted by the following vote on the 12th day of
March, A.D. , 1979.

Dear Commissioners:
Enclosed is a suggested proclamation proclaiming the week
of March 18-24, 1979, as Poison Prevention Week. I wonder if it is
possible to bring this to the attention of the County Commissioners
at the next regular meeting. The Weld-Greeley Safety Council would
be most appreciative of the commissioners approval of this
proclamation.

PROCLAMATION
POISON PREVENTION WEEK
March 18---24 , 1979
WHEREAS , all residents of -- should be made
aware of the ever-present dangers posed by poten-
tially poisonous household substances which cannot
be packaged safely; and
WHEREAS , ingestion by youngsters of commonly used drugs ,
medicines, and potentially toxic household products
as polishes, cleaners , lighter fluids , anti-freeze ,
and paint solvents occurs all too frequently; and
WHEREAS , Poison Prevention Week has been observed since 1962 ,
to inform and educate individuals to the hazards of
poisons; and
WHEREAS , the Colorado Regional Planning Council for Poison
Prevention, which includes : the Colorado rood and
Drug Administration, the Colorado Department of
Health, the Colorado Safety Association , the Mile-
high Chapter of the American Red Cross , Personal
Health Services , the Jefferson County Extension
Agency, McDonald' s Restaurants , the Eastside Neigh-
borhood Health Center, the Consumer Product Safety
Commission, the Volunteers of America, Children' s
Hospital , and the Environmental Protection Agency,
who are sponsoring programs to inform the people
of Colorado about the hazards of accidental poison-
ing;
NOW, THEREFORE , I , Mayor of _
Colorado , do hereby proclaim the week of March 18'--24 , 1979, as
POISON PREVENTION WEEK
