Subject: Amendment 64
After reading the article in the Greeley Tribune regarding the steps being taken by my Weld
county commissioners in regard to Amendment 64 I must say that I find it very disconcerting that you are
taking this position so quickly. It does give me pause and make me wonder if you realize that by and large the
voters of the state of Colorado as a whole passed a constitutional amendment, no small thing, on this issue. I
understand that you are probably taking these steps based on personal beliefs as well as the belief that your
constituency is wholly behind you. I feel that these actions only further the fragmentation that we have in our
nation today. Even though the majority has spoken you feel it necessary to carve out a conservative enclave .
In understand that as a county it is our right to do so in this situation but I think you must ask yourself if you
are really taking the right steps in regard to governance. For the record I do not use and do not intend to use
marijuana but I see certain folly in trying to keep it out of the hands of responsible adults as we continue to
profit from tobacco and alcohol which are far more detrimental to society but simply more accepted. I know
that next election I will certainly seek out new commissioners that have an open mind to change and the ability
to adapt to the world we now live in.
