Dear Mr.Conway:
I am generally very proud to call Weld County my home. Our government has done a
great job in dealing with our finances and working for the good of the people.
I am very unhappy with the driving performance of one of the county employees. On
July 16th an employee passed our home,(on a dirt road#61)at a very high rate of speed.
The dust was flying as he passed our house. I have no idea how fast he was going thus
that is not my main issue. At 12:00 on that same day I was driving to Hudson on HWY
52 when the same truck came to the stop sign on HWY 52 and County Road 53. He did a
rolling stop through the stop sign and proceeded to go west toward Hudson. When he
pulled out,he cut the car ahead of me off and they had to slow down for him. After
another mile that car turned off and I proceeded to catch up to get his license number. He
proceeded to travel to Hudson at 70 miles and hour(speed limit is 65)and on at least two
occasions crossed over the yellow line into the east bound lane. The license number of
the vehicle is HPX782. Over the course of the year thousands of Weld County vehicles
either passes on our road or is seen on HWY 52 or the Kersey cutoff. They have always
been safe and courteous drivers.
I am not looking to have the employee receive a ticket or fine,but I believe the county
needs to explain to him that he must follow the law whether he is in his own vehicle or a
county vehicle.
I would like to point out that I have no problems with the county and do not have any
traffic tickets. I have no grudge against the county,just would like for this individual to
realize that he could have been ticketed for four traffic offenses and even worse because
of this failure to stop,could have caused an accident.
