RE:TIGER IV Grant Award
Dear Board of County Coomnsissioners:
On behalf of the Colorado Department of Transportation(COOT),I would like to thank you for
lending your support for CDOT's TIGER IV grant application. Last Friday,it was announced that a$15
million TIGER IV grant was awarded for the I-25 North Managed Lanes Extension and Express Bus
Project.
I was delighted to learn that the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) recognized the
tremendous need for this project which will provide relief to one of Colorado's most congested interstate
corridors. The project will add a new managed lane with variable tolls in both north and south directions,
spanning from U.S.36 to 12011 Avenue. As you know,CDOT must do more with less given the state of
transportation funding. This project does just that, requiring no additional right-of-way and maximizing
the existing highway. This worthwhile project is estimated to cost$44 million to complete. The$15
million in federal TIGER grant funds is a significant step forward in making this vision a reality.
There is no question that the significant increase in local funding contributions over the previous
TIGER III application contributed to our success.I'd like to thank and acknowledge Weld County for its
financial support for this important project and I look forward to our continued partnership in the months
and years to come.
Sincerely,y/ ,y CiXaDonald E.Hunt
