RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES ON VARIOUS COUNTY
ROADS
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS,the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the Board
that warning signs and speed limit signs temporarily be installed on various County Roads, as
reflected on Exhibits A and B, attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, commencing
February 1, 2012, and ending July 31, 2012, to ensure safety to the traveling public, and
WHEREAS,the Board has determined that said traffic control devices are necessary for the
protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld
County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works be, and hereby is, directed to temporarily
install warning signs and speed limit signs on the specified County Roads, as reflected on Exhibits A
and B, commencing February 1, 2012, and ending July 31, 2012,for the safety of the general public,
and said signs shall conform to the State Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted by
the following vote on the 1st day of February, A.D., 2012.

SUBJECT: Temporary Reduction of Speed Limits on County Roads
A Request Resolution from the BOCC directing Public Works to maintain traffic regulatory signs (Speed Limit
R2-1) and warning signs on various county roadways, please see attached signage plan. This is to address the
temporary solution of water trucks loading water at fire hydrants on county roadways. The signs will be in
place from February 1, 2012 to July 31, 2012.
The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) recommends posting the speed limit within 5
mph of the 85 percentile speed limit (Section 2B-13). Other factors such as road characteristics,
roadside development, accident records, and shoulder conditions may be considered when establishing
speed limits. Based on the use of the shoulders for water loading Public Works recommends reducing
the speed limit in the following locations to 35 mph.
-West of WCR 27 on WCR 76
-South of WCR 88 on WCR 29
-South of WCR 76 on WCR 55
-East of WCR 51 on WCR 70
-West of WCR 59 on WCR 70
