Power Equipment was the lowest bidder for a Volvo Motor Grader. An Electronic Cross Slope Meter (Option L) is needed on this machine as it will be used in the building and repair of dust abatement roads. The bid specs state "an example or demonstration of these options must be provided by the successful bidder prior to the acceptance? Volvo does not offer electronic cross slope from the factory and the aftermarket examples have not been demonstrated to satisfactorily perform the desired purpose. This aftermarket unit would not have support for service or warranty work from Volvo or Power Equipment and would necessarily rely on a third party vendor. The electronic cross slope meter on the John Deere machine is a factory installed option that is integrated into the functioning of the machine. We currently have a John Deere machine in our fleet that performs the desired functions properly. For these reasons, we have determined that the Volvo machine from Power Equipment does not meet bid specs and we recommend the John Deere machine from Colorado Machinery be purchased. The base price of the machine is $184,900 and we would like the following options: Option B (GPS/Deluxe) is included in the base price; Option C (Removable Front Fenders) is$1,195; Option D (Removable Rear Fenders) is $2,250; Option E (AWD) is $24,475; Option F (Auto Shift Trans) is included in the base price; Option G (Rear Mounted Rippers) is$8,775 and Option L(Electronic Cross Slope Meter) is$13,825 for a total cost of$235,420.00. The cost for a Volvo motor grader from Power Equipment with the above options is$233,623. The cost difference between the John Deere and Volvo machine is$1,797.00.
