Dear Commissioner Steinmark:
I am happy to report that your and my letters were distributed to the Board
of Directors for the August 18 session to vote on the Health Systems Plan-
Oncology/Radiation Therapy Section. The concept in your letter of recognizing
the potential need for another radiation therapy facility in the Northern
Colorado Medical Trade Area by 1985 was accepted.
Also accepted (with only one dissenting vote) was the concept of a Traveling
Tumor Board. Some were not familiar with the plan to have medical and health
specialists visit remote areas as described in my letter of August 12. HSA
staff even recommended against the concept and later to me indicated a change
of opinion in our favor following the Board vote. In any event, the plan was
adopted and will now go to public hearings with our amendment.
I look forward with interest to the provision of a Traveling Tumor Board which
will perhaps be a milestone not only for our area but nationally in reaching
rural residents and thus strengthening our health care system.
There are some other matters which I will be glad to discuss with you in more
detail related to the August 18th meeting. Best wishes.
