As I stated this morning, initially the school district did not have concerns about this industrial subdivision at the intersections of Hwy. 85 and County Roads 44 and 33. The lack of concern was largely due to the small or little impact on student enrollment in the school district. Recently, I have heard from patrons in the school district regarding their concerns for the potential traffic issues. Upon further review of the referral for MINF 12-0001, the traffic study indicates that the subdivision may potentially exceed 5,000 trips per day once the subdivision is completely built out. The major unknown variable is how many years it will take for the developer to complete the build out. Initially,I suspect that traffic will travel south on CR 33 to CR 42 and take advantage of the traffic light controlled access to Hwy. 85 off of CR 42. I am concerned about the additional traffic at this intersection due the Hickman Development. The Hwy. 85 and CR 42 intersection already experiences a high volume of traffic. The new traffic light and changes to egress and ingress to the frontage roads in Gilcrest will increase the volume of traffic using the traffic light to access our schools and the Town of Gilcrest. If traffic is not forced south on CR 33,traffic will be accessing Hwy. 85 at the intersection of CR 44. As you are aware,the intersection of Hwy. 85 and CR 44 is one of the most dangerous intersections in Weld County, It is my understanding that at this time there are no plans to install a traffic light at this intersection. I am concerned about the potential increase in traffic at this already highly dangerous intersection. In addition, our school buses pick-up/drop-off children on CR 44, CR 33 and CR 42. I am greatly concerned about the safety of our students who ride our school buses, our bus drivers and our young student drivers. Now they are toying to pass the final Plat with the traffic trips starting at around 280 and ending at 5000 at final build out. How did we get to this number? How crazy is this' I know you ere looking at improving the roads.but there can not be enough done to ensure the safety of the citizens that use this intersection of 44.33 and highway 85.I understand there will be business built there.
