Dear Commissioner Conway,
As a valued regional partner, we would like to inform you that the Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) has completed the Final Environmental Assessment
of Area Navigation and Required Navigation Performance procedures at Denver
International Airport (DIA), Centennial Airport and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan
Airport. On August 29, 2012 the FAA issued a Finding of No Significant
Impact/Record of Decision. The complete FAA report is available on
www.DenverRNAVEA.com and is also accessible from www.flvdenver.com.
Currently, the FAA is scheduled to begin implementing the new approach
procedures at DIA in December 2012 and departure procedures in February 2013.
The new flight procedures are based on NextGen Global Positioning System
technology and will begin replacing the current procedures that use an exclusively
ground-based navigation system with precise satellite-based navigation
technology. One new technique to be implemented is the Optimized Profile
Descent. This technique will allow descending aircraft to reduce power and
maintain a constant glide path during descent. This new technique has proven to
have noise and emission benefits in addition to significant fuel savings for the
airlines.
The public is encouraged to contact the DIA Noise Management Office at 303-342-
2380 with additional questions or concerns. The public may also utilize the online
flight tracking and noise information system, WebTrak, to view air traffic and
noise data from DIA's Noise Management website.
Sincerely,
Kim Day
Manager of Aviation
