GREELEY, COLORADO 80631 COLORADO September 28, 1977 TO: Board of Weld County Comm.Ldsionexb FROM: Weld County Communications Advisory Board SUBJECT: Peh.6onnel Pxablem6, discussed at September 27, 1977, Communications Advisory Baaxd Meeting. The Weld County Communications AdvL oxy Board would like to bring to the attention oL ,the Board of County Commis- sionexs, theit feelings and evaluation of the (Veld County Communications Centex. In the last yeah, the pex4onnel twtnovex rate in the Com- munications Centex has been 75%. The reason fah this, we feet is pahtey due to the low weary paid the dispatchers and PBX aperatoxs. As soon as these people cute fully twined and qualified to do the job expected in an emelt- gency operations center, they leave fon a better paying job. Also, at the tow pay offen.ed applicants for dis- patchem on PBX operators, they axe either college students, who may be here fox a sham time, oh perhaps someone look- ing fox only a supplementary job bah a shone period of tUne. Since Weld County Communications Center is an emergency operations center, the Advisory Baaxd would like to see it classified according to the demands and qualifications of the job. The dispatchers and PBX operators axe ex- pected to act with„utmost speed and accuracy in following up on any cafes keittped, either from officers in the field, ox citizens ,in need of an emergency service and in many of these s.ituatLans peapte'A tLves cute at stake. They axe xequixed to work different shifts to make it possible to have the centeh. manned, 24 hoots pelt day, 7 days a week. With these job demands in mind, we hope you wile see the need fox quality and appropriate salary for pexeannel h%x- ed by the Communications Centelt. • It is the considered opinion of the Advisory Baaxd that the Communications Centex .is understaffed normally, con- sidering the amount of emexgenci:es they handle and this .is even more pxom.i,nent at times when they have holidays, vacations, ox personnel that cute ill. 770494 CM-O9°a ,/L ?ye ` -kJ /V) /_ Page 2 Septembeh. 28, 1977 With the demand Son, being able to make a deci ion quickly and the complicated Sanction oS dispatching the coot/teat Site department, police oSSLee,t, ambulance, on. rescue agency, the job is at times very tense.
