RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES ON COUNTY
ROAD 79 AT COUNTY ROAD 74
WHEREAS,the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,Colorado,pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County,Colorado,and
WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the
Board that Stop signs be installed on County Road 79 at County Road 74,to ensure safety to
the traveling public,and
WHEREAS,the Board has determined that said traffic control devices are necessary for
the protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works be, and hereby is, directed to
install Stop signs on County Road 79 at County Road 74, for the safety of the general public,
and said signs shall conform to the State Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded,adopted
by the following vote on the 25th day of June,A.D.,2012.

SUBJECT: Installation of a Stop Sign on CR 79
Public Works requests approval to install a traffic regulatory sign (Stop sign R1-1) at the intersections of CR 79
with CR 74. North and South bound traffic would be stopped on CR 79 at CR 74.
The traffic count for CR 79 was taken in August 2001 with an AADT of 63. The traffic count for CR 74 was
taken in August 2001 with an AADT of 153; both county roads are gravel roads. The Manual of Uniform Traffic
Control Devices (MUTCD) section 2B.04 suggests that stop signs should be placed at an intersection of a less
important road with a main road where application of the normal right-of-way rule would not be expected to
provide reasonable compliance with the law. Public Works recommends that traffic be stopped on CR 79 & CR
74 in the north and south bound direction due to the traffic volumes in the area.
