HomeMy WebLinkAbout750771.tiff mEi noRAnDUm To County Commissioners Date July 9 , 1975 COLORADO From subject: Application of oil sludge on County roads for dust abatement As per your instructions last week the following is my report on placing oil sludge on County Roads for dust abatement . The type of oil proposed is called Condensate , which is oil that has flammable liquids mixed in it which comes from the gas wells . This Condensate also has a very large amount of water and water gel also mixed in with it . The dust abatement property in this Condensate is a low grade of crude oil . I would recommend that 2 applications of approximately of . 15 gallons per square yard be applied to the road. All traffic should be kept off of the road for a period of at least 4 to 6 hours to allow the volatile liquids in this Condensate to properly evaporate . The new cars with their hot mufflers could be a serious problem on these roads since these mufflers generate a large amount of heat . The Condensate should be applied by a spray bar attached to the tank truck. The tank truck should not be allowed to simply open the valve and spill the oil over the road. Proper signs and barricades should be placed and we should have men maintaining these barricades during the time we are prohibiting traffic from using this road. Additional signs should temporarily be placed denoting fresh oil ahead for several days after application of the Condensate. If the material is used from oil wells then a single application of approximately . 15 gallons per square yard is sufficient . I would suggest that we have a test section set up to evaluate usin this type oil and to evaluate the exact amount to be placed. Richard L. Straub 750771 / \ /<I Hello
