The District serves 184 square miles including Dacono, Mead, Niwot, Erie, and unincorporated areas of Boulder and Weld Counties. This includes over 50,000 permanent residents and 60,000 commuters. Currently, MVFR has 5 staffed stations and another station will be staffed on Highway 119 by the end of November. MVFR's ISO has been lowered to 3/9 as of November 1st Also, MVFR has no bonded indebtedness, and continues to operate on a cash basis. MVFR has placed a strong emphasis on fiscal responsibility and superior financial management. MVFR earned Accreditation through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International in August, 2013. Origins of Buddies • A need for a better, more efficient mode of transportation for Sparky the Fire Safety Dog. • Resources from Weld County were available for a significantly lower cost than a lift. • Community Outreach needed a way to encompass all safety curriculum into one theme. Purpose and Plans for the Barnyard Safety Buddies ® Community Outreach Education Program • I of our 13 Community Outreach Programs provided by MVFR. • Education program created for MVFR • Fit the demographics of the District • Audience is 2 years of age to 2nd grade. • Currently the program has reached over 15,000 people within our District. Stages of Development • Stage 1 - Creation of characters including bus wrap, character stands, and lesson plans. • Stage 2 - Creation of You Tube video of live animals performing safety messages with QR Tags for an interactive display. • Stage 3 - Electronic learning devices, the creation of an interactive character book, and sponsorship. Before How the Program Works Meet the Barnyard Safety Buddies IN Sir Vrain Mouse Sir Vrain is the narrator of the Barnyard Safety Buddies. Rocky the Horse Teaching Points: Stop, Drop, & Roll Lucky the Cow Teaching Points: 911 Calls Story of Lucky: Lucky was a 911 call we received in 2012. She who was a stranded, pregnant cow on Highway 52 and our crews assisted in rescuing her without any harm to her or her baby. Plucky the Rooster Safety Message: Smoke Alarm Preparedness Story of Name: Plucky is a rooster in Tampa Bay that alerted a family to a house on fire by crowing when he saw the smoke, resulting in the family being saved. Murray the Goat Safety Message: Poison Control Henry the Pig Safety Message: Helmet Safety Story of Henry: Henry is an 800 pound pig in Mead that MVFR crews saved in December of 2012 when he fell into a deep hole. Mama Duck and her Ducklings Safety Message: Pedestrian Safety The Barnyard Safety Buddies • This program is interactive, fun, and brings our Community Outreach to a new level • It communicates essential safety messages to children in a way they can comprehend and remember. • It markets MVFR in a way that demonstrates our emphasis on community safety. The Barnyard Safety Buddies has been awarded the 2013 Fire and Life Safety P rogram of the Year from the Fire and Life S afety Educators of Colorado. I 2013 Programs 1. AED's in Schools 2. Barnyard Safety Buddies MVFR also hosts a multiple of Community Service Projects including our Pancake Breakfast, Fired Up for Food Drive, Christmas for the Troops, and Give Cancer the Boot.
