HONORING WELD COUNTY FAMILY CAREGIVERS
AND ELDERGARDEN ADULT DAY CARE
DECEMBER, 2013
WHEREAS, caregiving for a family member can be the most stressful situation a family
encounters in a lifetime, and
WHEREAS, caregivers have stress levels four times higher than an age -matched noncaregiver,
according to a study at Ohio State University School of Medicine, and
WHEREAS, caregivers who resign early from employment to care for an elderly family member
can lose benefits and wages totaling up to $600,000 and more, assuming such assets were
invested, and
WHEREAS, the care provided by family caregivers helps offset the impact on our community
budgets at a time we can ill afford the rising cost of healthcare, and
WHEREAS, Eldergarden Adult Day Care Program can provide a needed rest for weary
caregivers, helping them to regain their own strength and enabling the caregiver to remain
employed, and
WHEREAS, Eldergarden has been providing services in Weld County for 32 years, and
WHEREAS, Eldergarden needs more individuals and families to know they can get help at little
to no cost from Eldergarden's program to provide an interesting day for their loved one and a
break for the caregiver.
NOW, THEREFORE, let it be known that the Board of County Commissioners does hereby
proclaim December, 2013, as a time to honor all the family/caregivers and Eldergarden Adult
Care Program for its important work in Weld County.
