INFANT SAFE SLEEP AWARENESS MONTH
SEPTEMBER 2013
WHEREAS, Weld County is taking proactive steps to help families create safe sleeping
environments for their infants, and
WHEREAS, adult beds, couches, pillows, and soft articles are not appropriate or safe for
sleeping infants, and
WHEREAS, babies sleep safest when sleeping alone, on their back, in a bassinet or crib
with a firm mattress and tightly fitted sheet, while being dressed appropriately, so as not
to overheat, and
WHEREAS, parents, grandparents, relatives, and daycare providers can learn more about
providing babies with safe sleep environments at www.weldhealth.orq, and
WHEREAS, during the month of September, we join the Weld County Department of
Human Services, Department of Public Health and Environment, and Luthern Family
Services Rocky Mountain, and other local agencies working collaboratively through the
Safe Sleep Campaign Team, to raise awareness of the important steps parents can take
to ensure the safety of their infant children while sleeping.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it hereby resolved that the Board of Weld County Commissioners
does hereby proclaim September, 2013 as Infant Safe Sleep Awareness Month in Weld
County.
