RE: RIGHTS OF LANDOWNERS REGARDING STRAY DOGS ATTACKING LIVESTOCK.
WHEREAS , the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS , many livestock owners throughout Weld County have
been concerned over the problem of stray dogs attacking livestock,
and
WHEREAS , Weld County has a dog control resolution that does
not have adequate funds to sufficiently control the problem of
stray dogs, and
WHEREAS, landowners owning livestock have a present remedy
under State statute under which technical advice can be obtained
by a landowner through the Mammal Control Agent of the Colorado
Department of Agriculture, said State statute stating as follows :
"35-43-126. Dog worrying stock. Any dog
found running, worrying, or injuring sheep,
cattle, or other livestock may be killed, and
the owner or harborer of such dog shall be
liable for all damages done by it. "
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Com-
missioners of Weld County, Colorado that notice is hereby given
to owners of livestock who have a problem concerning stray dogs
that technical advice for control of stray dogs may be obtained
through the Mammal Control Agent of the Colorado Department of
Agriculture.
The above and foregoing Resolution was , on motion duly made
and seconded, adopted by the following vote on the 25th day of
April , A.D. , 1979 .
