Corner) II t Mr. Sasaki explained that the site is outside of the City limits and the request is to rezone from estate to agricultural with a Special Use Permit for gravel mining. Staff's recommendation is that the gravel excavation be E 1"I,-294 allowed, with a 200 foot setback from 4th Street. Commissioner Keirnes asked if the cores had been drilled. Mr. Methias replied that they have. Commissioner Ewald questioned the request of the County for rezoning "1." to "A". Mr. Sasaki explained that "A" is the only l zoning which allows mining. He also noted that a letter was received objecting to the zone change and Special Use Permit. The person had concerns with the length of time the mining would take and has read the report. She would like to sec the property develop residentially, as it is already E zoned for this. Chairman Cummins noted that the state requires extraction, even under other zoning. Commissioner Ewald asked what the maintenance would be for the setback. Mr. Sasaki noted that staff's 200 fcot suggestion was an arbitrary figure set because of their concern with the open pit .
