WCR 98 and most of the roads in the area are graded gravel so prone to causing dust under traffic loads and dry conditions. You are correct; our trucks are using WCR 98 as a haul route to and from the County's North Pierce gravel pit. There are two other gravel pits in the area, so not all truck traffic is ours. And, as you know, there has been a significant increase in oilfield development resulting in additional trucking to support that development. The County hauls gravel only intermittently along that WCR 98 route. We use other roads depending on where the gravel for road maintenance needs to be delivered. WCR 98 is the closest connection of our Pierce pit to State Highway 85. Your suggestion to use WCR 96 will not generally work since that road does not connect to the State Highway and that alternate route will simply move the traffic to where it will impact other homes along WCR 33. Our Trucking supervisor and foreman have been notified of the complaint and will instruct drivers to use alternative routes when possible. Our drivers will also be reminded to monitor wind directions so that they can avoid having road dust blow in the direction of the homes along WCR 98. We may be able to provide some dust control if dry conditions and significant amounts of hauling is anticipated. Please call me or Jay McDonald at (970) 304-6496, extensions 3739 and 3761 with your concerns. She is correct; our trucks are using WCR 98 as a haul route to and from our North Pierce gravel pit. There are two other gravel pits in the area, so not all truck traffic is ours. We haul intermittently along that WCR 98 route and others depending on where the gravel needs to be delivered. WCR 98 is the closest connection of our Pierce pit to State Highway 85. WCR 98 and most of the roads in the area are graded gravel so prone to causing dust under traffic loads and dry conditions. Our traffic counts in the area are over two years old so not adequate to describe current conditions; however most of the gravel roads in this area have historically under 100 vehicles per day. Our Trucking supervisor and foremen have been notified of the complaint and will instruct drivers to use alternative routes when possible. Our drivers will also be reminded to monitor wind directions so that they can avoid having road dust blow in the direction of the homes along 98. We may be able to provide some dust control if dry conditions and significant amounts of hauling is anticipated. I will write Ms. Jones to explain these issues. M:\DAVE B\Pierce North\Truck Traffic Complaint.doc February 6, 2013 Roy Otto City Manager 1000 10'" Street Greeley, CO 80631 RE: Truck'! rank & Quarry (iriecancc County Road 98 & 37 Nunn, CO. Dear Sir, I am writing to you because I have exhausted all other efforts to try to get some of the truck traffic from the Weld County Roads, dirt haulers, to divert to County Rd. 96 where there are NO homes or small children. County Rd. 98 has approximately 14 homes, many with small children and animals. These large trucks come running down the road approximately every 10 seconds at the speed of 55 mph or faster. There is no way they could slow down or stop if a child were to run out into the road! They turn on Cty Rd. 37 to get to the Weld Quarry, which really happens to be at the junction of Cty Rd. 96 & 37, NOT 98 & 37! Not only are they traveling at a speed that kicks up a lot of dirt from the road, but when I hang my clothes out on the clothesline, I have to rewash them due to all that dust! This is NOT cost effective for myself or others living on Cty Rd. 98. All I'm asking is they use roads that are NOT as populated as Cty Rd. 98 is. There are NO homes OR children on Cty Rd 96 & 35 & they could certainly turn on 35 go V2 mile to 96 & turn there to get to 37. I have photos of these trucks coming and going with times & dates as well should you wish to see proof of what I'm talking about. We also have to deal with all the oil well traffic/trucks as well! If they wish to continue to use Cty rd 98, then I suggest you pave the road all the way up to Cty rd 37, put speed zone signs up to slow down to 35 mph in the residential sections of the road for safety. I'm also going to send a copy of this letter of Grier ance to the Weld County Planning Dept, Greeley Planning Dept., & Mayor Tom Norton. I have already spoken to CDOT in Denver about the situation and they are aware that I will be sending this letter out to those listed. If you wish to discuss this situation with me, I may be reached @ 970-897-2704. I would be happy to come in to discuss this in more detail with maps, photos etc., as well if you so desire. Sin ere regards, 80648 cc. - - , Weld Cty Planning, Greeley Planning, & Mayor Tom Norton Hello
