Enclosed for BOCC approval is the bid from Real Food Colorado for a food hub feasibility study.
This project is the continuation of a multi -year food system development project undertaken by
Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment. This study will capture the market
potential and project development needs leading to a partner -based food hub in Weld County.
This project is unique to the region and the result of the year- long collaborative efforts of our
Food Hub Advisory Panel representing a broad range of food system interests in Weld County.
The project RFP was sent to CSU, Real Food Colorado, WPM Consulting, LiveWell Colorado and was
posted on the Weld County web page. The sole bid is from Real Food Colorado, LLC and meets
specifications. Therefore, the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment is
recommending the bid be awarded to Real Food Colorado, LLC for the feasibility study in the amount of
$35,000.00.
The total bid amount is $35,000 and the contract period is October 1, 2013 to May 31, 2014.
Options and Impacts for the Board to consider:
1. Declining this proposal would severely hinder the current Colorado Health Foundation
grant totaling $86,807; in which, $35,000 is apportioned for a food hub feasibility study.
Declining this grant would also halt the food system development work completed to
date by WCDPHE and negatively impact the four employees working under this grant.
2. Approval of this project allow for WCDPHE to pursue a completely unique model for
food aggregation and support/expand the efforts of existing partner agencies. The
completion of this study will provide a model for other communities to follow and will
help continue Weld County's reputation as an agricultural and food system leader.
