Weld County Juvenile Accountability Grant (JABG) #11-JB-L-19-13

INFORMATION ONLY
Please be advised that JABG allocation from the Division of Criminal Justice for federal fiscal
year 2013/2014 did not include a direct award to Weld County meaning that this grant formally
sunset on October 3l. This decision was not because of poor services or administration but
simply a byproduct of the lack of sustainable funding. This was a small grant ($30,000 with the
County retaining a small percentage for administration). Services involved our vendor North
Range Behavioral Health, performing mental health and substance abuse assessments of certain
juvenile arrestees at Platte Valley and then submitting this information to the Courts for pretrial
release planning, etc. While I do not think there will be direct impact to Weld County
Government, it may have some effect on general prevention and reentry efforts.
It's a bit of a disappointment that it's ending because the grant itself was a mess and this past
year Justice Services and NRBH worked hard to get things straightened out. I have kept North
Range, Trevor Jiricek and Don Warden informed all along the way, and all paperwork is in
order.
