Mr. Dick Van Proosdy
12490 Weld County Road 1
Longmont, Colorado 80504
Project: 12453
Dear Mr. Van Proosdy:
The purpose for this letter is to document information related to the vault for the
shop adjacent to your existing residence located on the property known as 12490
Weld County Road 1 in Weld County, Colorado.
We understand that the crux of the issue is that there is an unpermitted vault
(1250 -gallon) that serves the bathroom in the shop building. It is our
understanding that the bathroom is primarily used by Mr. Van Proosdy, but with
an occasional outside visitor.
We have done a site inspection and observed the existing vault and the existing
septic tank (for the septic system for the residence). We measured elevations to
determine if it was possible to connect the bathroom in the shop to the existing
septic tank for the residence. We found that the septic tank is slightly upslope
and the elevations will not allow sufficient grade for this gravity connection.
While at the site we also did measurements to see if the existing vault installation
meets the Weld County Health Department offset requirements. Our
measurements indicated that the vault is in compliance with the minimum
offsets including to the well and to the small irrigation lateral that is near the
property line. The irrigation lateral was the closest to the offsets limits. We
measured this offset at just over 50 feet.
We understand that you have consulted with a septic system pump company
and have determined that the vault will need to be pumped approximately every
9 months. We also understand that you have set a schedule to be pumped every
6 months. The Weld County Health DeparLitent regulations require that "a

signal device shall be installed to indicate when pumping is necessary". This is
normally an alarm system that triggers when the vault is approximately 80% full.
However, there are many alternatives and the County may require that some sort
of signal device be utilized.
Based on the situation, with relatively small flows in the bathroom in the shop,
the inability to connect this bathroom to the main septic system and the fact that
the vault location maintains the minimum offsets required, we would support
the permitting of the vault.
Attached to this report is a scaled drawing the illustrates the property and
significant features on the property.
Thank you for consulting with us. If there are any questions concerning this
report, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
REG fir
